Graduate Certificate in Social Innovation and Global Development
The Graduate Certificate in Social Innovation and Global Development (SIGD) aims to equip students with the tools to launch a successful social venture.
You’ll develop an innovative mindset with key skills and tools to identify, develop and scale social innovations within your thematic area of expertise. Using what you’ve learned, you’ll be ready to address complex development challenges and tackle the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Eligibility
All Georgetown graduate students, regardless of program or school, can apply for the SIGD certificate.
Requirements
Courses are grouped along three essential pathways for successful social innovations:
- Identification and design
- Multisectoral partnerships
- Social finance
To earn the certificate, you must complete:
- 15 credits, including at least 1.5 credits from each category of the approved list of electives
- A gateway module (1.5 credit course) called Social Innovation for Global Development, offered in both fall and spring
Social Innovation Lab
We encourage you to participate in the student-run Global Social Innovation Lab, an annual ideathon and pitch competition open to all Georgetown students. This is a platform to learn from experts and develop your own social innovation ideas to tackle a different sustainable development challenge every academic year.
How to apply
To be eligible for the program, you must submit an application by the end of the final term before your graduation date. Applications are subject to approval by Ekin Birol, certificate director, who can provide additional information.
