The undergraduate minor in International Development (IDEV) will provide students with the training and background need to understand the dimensions, challenges, and processes of global poverty and prosperity. The minor aims to expose students to a broad, multidisciplinary range of courses as well as to core methodologies and requisite analytical tools needed to identify, measure, and assess the determinants and effects of international development. Students will acquire analytical tools and substantive expertise through a foundational course on international development, as well as through exposure to methods courses that focus on issues such as the determinants of economic growth, political change in lower- and middle-income countries, rural poverty, or global health or environmental policy. Please join us to learn more about the Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies Undergraduate Certificate, a flexible interdisciplinary certificate administered by the Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies. The certificate complements an ongoing degree program and is awarded upon the successful completion of the following minimum requirements:
– six courses (18 credits) chosen from selected course offerings in economics, history, culture and government
– two years of intensive language study appropriate to the region
– completed research project for the required interdisciplinary colloquium, REES 398

The Center for Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Studies undergraduate certificate introduces students to one of the most vibrant and exciting parts of the world. It covers a region that sports only one land border. Australia, one of America’s closest and oldest allies, is a powerhouse of natural resources. New Zealand, that social laboratory of democracy, embraces fairness as an essential ideal. The vast Pacific Ocean is home to numerous small island countries with vast Exclusive Economic Zones. All these countries have had enormous success in preventing the scourge of COVID-19 from taking hold. The existential threat of climate change continues to animate the political and social environments. Learn more about this region with the CANZPS certificate.

The Certificate in Arab Studies provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to study the language, history, and institutions of the Arab world within the framework of their disciplinary major. The certificate program’s purpose is to give a regional focus to a student’s degree for those who are planning careers in or who wish to develop lifelong interests related to the MENA region.

The Landegger Program Honors Certificate in International Business Diplomacy will host a virtual open house of for BSFS students interested in connecting their major course of study with coursework that prepares students for work at the intersection of business and policy. Please join us from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. for a conversation with Director Rod Ludema and Special Advisor and IBD alumna Rosie O’Neil.
At the open house we will walk you through the curriculum with a focus on applied skills building and the opportunities available for co-curricular engagement. We’ll also give you insights into the the alumni community and the employment pathways that IBD students pursue.

The undergraduate Certificate in Diplomatic Studies is designed for students whose careers will demand an understanding of the formulation and implementation of foreign policy. It is open to students from all BSFS majors and seeks to build on the BSFS program’s multidisciplinary core curriculum.
This certificate will expand and enhance a student’s understanding and appreciation of the complexity of issues, conventional and emerging, and the multiplicity of players and apply this knowledge to the formulation and implementation of policies in a 21st century context.
The application for undergraduate Certificate in Diplomatic Studies is due on Friday, April 9, 2021 or (with ISD permission) first semester of junior year.

The Center for Jewish Civilization (CJC) is an interdisciplinary teaching and research unit in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. The CJC specializes in subjects ranging from American Middle Eastern foreign policy as it pertains to Israel, to Holocaust and genocide studies, to Jewish-Catholic relations, to Jewish literature, music, culture, and religious expression. At the CJC, we emphasize intercultural and interreligious understanding, and cultivate a communal culture of learning.
