On Monday 09 November 2020, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will host the NATO 2030 Youth Summit, to ensue that NATO incorporated young people’s views of security and peace in its reflection on the future of the Alliance. The half-day event will include 9 separate discussion sessions, covering a comprehensive set of transatlantic and global security issues. This will include relevant topics for future leaders, such as the fight against international terrorism, security implications of climate change, technological developments, multilateralism and health crises.
Organized in co-operation with the Munich Security Conference, the NATO 203 Youth Summit aims to bring together 18-35 year-old citizens from NATO Allied and partner countries – from universities, business/private sector programmes and young entrepreneurs – for an online conversation with the Secretary General, and a series of interactive debates focused on keeping NATO strong militarily, making it stronger politically and taking a more global approach.
Thousands of young people have been invited to participate and follow online. Allied Heads of State and Government and Ministers as well as leading journalists, established think tank and thought leaders and young innovators will also take part.
During the event, the Secretary General will announce the establishment of the NATO 2030 Young Leaders, a group of 14 emerging leaders from across the Alliance who will provide him with input to inform his recommendations for NATO 2030. This group of young professionals and future leaders have been recruited from several established leaders’ programs from across the Alliance. He will also announce the winners of the #NATO2030 video contest.
The NATO 2030 Youth Summit is part of NATO 2030, the Secretary General’s initiative to make sure the Alliance remains ready to face tomorrow’s challenges, and keep its citizens safe in the next decade and beyond. While full participation in the event is limited to invited guests, the Youth Summit will be streamed live – no registration is necessary.
