Can I apply as international student?
Yes, we welcome students from institutions across the world. International students must apply by the earlier (February 23rd) deadline. You are responsible for visas and travel documentation, as applicable, but we can assist with supporting documentation.
What is the application procedure?
Please complete the application form available here by the deadline. Following the submission of your application, you may be asked by the Steering Committee to submit additional information before a decision is made.
What if I’m not done with my research?
You can still apply even before you have finished your research. Before sending your work in progress, we strongly encourage you to include a paper abstract with a detailed data and methodology section, because that will give us an idea of your paper topic and quality. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Steering Committee.
What if I wrote my paper as a co-author?
You are welcome to submit a co-authored paper, as long as your co-author is also an undergraduate student. The co-authors do not need to attend the same university. Please keep in mind, however, that funding will be allocated on a per-paper basis. If multiple authors of the same paper wish to apply, they may submit one application.
What range of paper topics are accepted at the conference?
We accept papers relating to all fields of economics, including domestic and international topics.
When will I hear whether I have been accepted?
We will aim to make decisions quickly after the deadline, but please be patient given the high volume of applicants. International applicants can expect to receive a decision around mid-March and domestic applicants can expect to hear a decision in early April.
When should I prepare to arrive and depart?
An informal get-together and opening remarks will be held the evening of Thursday, April 18. You are not required to attend but, in the past, students have appreciated this chance to meet before the busy conference schedule begins. The conference will formally begin the morning of Friday, April 19. There is a formal closing ceremony on Sunday morning, April 21. You may depart right after or have lunch/sightsee with your new friends.
A more detailed schedule will be available in the spring.
Which airport or train station is nearest to Georgetown University?
Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Union Station are located on the subway and are only short rides away from Georgetown. Other options include Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI). Please see Maps and Directions or contact us if you have any further questions.
What is the dress code?
There is a mixture of formal and informal events so be prepared for business, business casual and casual dress. Check the conference schedule to see what is required at each event.
What if I need financial support?
We ask that you first turn to your home institution for any funding necessary. Feel free to refer them to this website or our proceedings to inform them of the unique opportunities Carroll Round provides to undergraduate students worldwide. After exhausting local avenues, please reach out to us at carrollround@georgetown.edu with your specific financial request(s). We will try to accommodate you as best we can.
