Study Abroad Direct Enrollment/Matriculation Overview
Successful completion of a semester or year (or otherwise specifically noted below) of one of the following GU-approved, direct matriculation study abroad programs will automatically fulfill the BSFS Foreign Language proficiency degree requirement. These classes are conducted in a language native to the country and are the same classes offered to degree seeking candidates at that university. Successful completion means a student has completed the full-time course load designated for the program and passed each course enrolled.
Language proficiency will be certified on a student’s transcript only after the official transcript from the GU-approved program has been received, reviewed by the student’s curricular dean, and study abroad credits have been approved and posted to the GU transcript.
Curricular deans reserve the right, in consultation with the language departments, to require a student to take and pass the oral proficiency exam in addition to the study abroad program should faculty and the dean’s judgment deem additional evaluation of a student’s language proficiency necessary.
Study Abroad Programs eligible for the BSFS Language Proficiency requirement are listed by language. This list is subject to change.
