Ruth Hansen (MSFS‘70) is appointed director of the Policy Planning and Coordination Office, prior to this she served as a political officer across the Balkans and deputy director of the peacekeeping & humanitarian affairs. Before her career, Hansen was told after failing her foreign service exam that she was going to Georgetown for grad school and so would probably marry a nice man and not have to worry about working. In fact, she ended up having 30-year tenure at the State Department career.
