Mark Simakovsky (MSFS‘05) is promoted to be the Chief of Staff for Europe/NATO in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy. The former Fulbright scholar to Georgia previously worked as the Department of Defense’s Georgia and Moldova Country Director, Eurasia and NATO Strategy Advisor, and as Russia Country Director. In the wake of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and invasion of Eastern Ukraine, Simakovsky was instrumental in producing the Department of Defense’s crisis response options and overseeing the force posture, regional engagement, deterrence and reassurance initiatives.
