Mark Hetfield (SFS’88) is named President and CEO of HIAS, a Jewish nonprofit focused on protecting and advocating on behalf of the world’s most vulnerable refugee populations. Hetfield previously worked at the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. According to his HIAS bio, since becoming the head of the organization, he has shifted its focus “from helping refugees because they were Jewish to helping refugees because we are Jewish.”
