When Sean Cooke (SFS’21) arrived on the Hilltop, he was mid-career in the military and had been out of the classroom for more than a decade. The Pat Tillman Scholar decided to pursue a major in Regional and Comparative Studies after first-hand experiences with war and diplomacy in the Middle East compelled him to develop an understanding of the region and its history and dynamics.

Cooke describes his SFS experience as highly collaborative. Some of his favorite moments have been opportunities to mentor, learn from and work with others, whether through his roles with Georgetown Athletics and the Sports Performance Department or the support he received from Dean Lisa Gordinier and his wife, Victoria. “My peers motivated me to get and be smarter, and the professors and deans both challenged me and supported me in that endeavor,” Cooke says.
