Bethe has witnessed firsthand the realities of political polarization, shaped by Pennsylvania’s critical role as a swing state. During her gap year in 2022, she worked on the Josh Shapiro campaign for Governor and continued supporting Democratic politicians after the midterms. At Georgetown, she has deepened her interest in foreign policy through a research internship with the Embassy of Jordan, and as a Pelosi Scholar next summer, she will deepen her deeped her knowledge further as an intern with the U.S. Department of State. Bethe pursued the Pelosi Scholars Initiative to gain mentorship and practical experience in shaping public policy, with a focus on disinformation, counterterrorism, and protecting marginalized communities. The program offers her a unique opportunity to integrate her academic foundation in international security with her professional experiences, enabling her to develop actionable solutions to pressing national and global challenges as she starts to build a career dedicated to creating effective, equitable public policy in national security and human rights.
