Maya Fernandez-Powell’s (SFS’22) four years on the Hilltop have been defined by big wins — both on and off the soccer field. The graduating Regional and Comparative Studies major is a member of the Varsity Women’s Soccer team and boasts three Big East championships and an NCAA Final Four appearance on her Hoya resume.
The dedicated athlete has also enjoyed success in the classroom. Fernandez-Powell’s passion for Western European politics inspired her to complete a minor in French and a research fellowship for the BMW Center for German and European Studies at SFS, where she investigated the role for far-right political groups in transatlantic relations. Outside of Georgetown, Fernandez-Powell pursued a passion for public service, leading a voter registration drive among student athletes as a representative on the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Committee. After graduation, she is looking forward to more time on the Hilltop as she embarks on a Georgetown master’s degree in Applied Intelligence, where she will focus on counterterrorism and cybersecurity.
