The one-year Executive Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs (EMDIA) program is designed to cultivate future leaders in the Asia-Pacific. EMDIA equips Indonesian civil servants and regional practitioners with essential skills to tackle global and regional challenges. Georgetown University is launching Georgetown SFS Asia-Pacific (GSAP), its new location in Jakarta, Indonesia, in January 2025, building on its established campuses in Washington, DC, and Doha, Qatar. The EMDIA program offers a truly international education, combining coursework across these strategic locations, all vital hubs of international diplomacy.

Program Background

The EMDIA program has been developed by Georgetown’s Asian Studies Program and Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, in close consultation with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Finance’s LPDP Scholarship Program. The curriculum is tailored to the needs of international affairs practitioners in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific. Courses will be taught by Georgetown’s renowned faculty and affiliated practitioners.

Admissions Anchor

Admissions

The EMDIA is open to highly qualified:

  • Indonesian officials engaged in international affairs in relevant fields such as foreign affairs, finance, defense, environment and trade
  • Other practitioners from Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region, including State-Owned Enterprises

 

The admissions criteria include:

  • Indonesian civil servants or officials nominated by their government ministries
  • A bachelor’s degree 
  • A minimum TOEFL iBT score of 80, IELTS of 7.0, Duolingo score of 110, TOEFL Paper-Based score of 550. Scores are valid for no more than two years from the test date.

 

Admission Review Process:

1) Indonesian ministries nominate civil servants seeking LPDP scholarships to the LPDP scholarship by November 1, 2024

2) Indonesian applicants (government and non-government) wishing to be considered for the LPDP program should submit application materials to both Georgetown University and the LPDP Program by November 1, 2024. Applications submitted by October 15, 2024 will receive priority consideration.

3) Georgetown University will conduct a holistic admission review process that includes:

  • Academic records
  • Statement of purpose submitted by the applicant
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Admissions interview

Funding*

Indonesian citizens will be eligible for the LPDP scholarship, fully covering tuition and living expenses.

*The licensing for the EMDIA Program is currently under final review and the LPDP funding is subject to final approval.

Curriculum Anchor

Curriculum

The 30-credit executive master’s program will span a full academic year, with one semester in Jakarta covering key issues focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, an optional week-long module in Qatar focusing on the Middle East and Energy issues, and one semester in Washington, examining global issues. In total, the curriculum will be delivered through 20 courses that can be divided into the following thematic areas: international relations, economic diplomacy, energy & environment, and skills development.
