Anna Steinhelper
Associate Dean; Curricular Dean for STIA
Anna Steinhelper comes to us from the University of Chicago, where she was an adviser to undergraduate students in the College and a Resident Head in the College Housing program. She received her MA in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago and her BA in archaeology from Wheaton College. Her research focus was the first millennium BCE, with specific interests in the rise and fall of states and the term “collapse” as a rubric for doing historical work. After receiving her MA in ancient Near Eastern History, Dean Steinhelper spent a year in Berlin, Germany, learning German and studying at the FreieUniversität. Having spent her childhood as a Foreign Service “brat,” Dean Steinhelper is excited to meet the SFS students. She believes that the key to students’ academic success is a holistic approach that takes account of each students’ unique academic strengths, personal interests, and professional aspirations.
