Title: Libby Bassini

Elisabeth (Libby) Bassini is a rising junior in the School of Foreign Service’s Science, Technology and International Affairs (STIA) program with a concentration in Business, Growth and Development. She has previously completed extensive big data research at Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute in Buffalo, New York (2013). Libby then transitioned to clinical (wet lab) research in 2014 working at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York, where she worked specifically with novel inhibitors in pre-clinical breast cancer trials. Libby has gone on to gain a greater understanding of how scientific solutions and technology can positively impact development and address global issues through her work at the U.S. Department of State in its Office of Commercial and Business Affairs (2016), Office of Economic Policy Analysis and Public Diplomacy (2016), and its Office of Conservation and Water (2017). She has worked with programs such as the US’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) and its Global Water Strategy. These programs aim to promote inclusive growth and ensure that the most marginalized have access to sustainable livelihoods, legal housing and affordable basic services such as water/sanitation and electricity supply. In her free time, Elisabeth enjoys 3D printing at Georgetown’s Maker Hub, hiking, and reading about new emerging technologies. A little known fact is that last summer, Elisabeth was an extra in the movie Marshall. Libby’s goal is to work collaboratively with a global network of leaders in the development of transformative materials and devices to solve the world’s most critical problems.
