The Master of Arts in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies (MAERES) brings you to a broad and deep understanding of the politics, history, economics, language and culture of the diverse countries and challenges in a region that stretches from Central Europe to the Pacific Ocean and spans the Baltic to the Black Seas.

Who should apply?

Our master of arts degree is aimed at advancing the expertise and skills of those who have already begun to study Eurasia and Eastern Europe. At Georgetown, you will build advanced language skills, take multidisciplinary courses from experts and benefit from advising tailored to specific career goals. In the context of a region prone to dramatic changes, you will graduate with the methodological skills and core knowledge required to interpret present and future developments.

Curriculum

We offer a rich and diverse curriculum that spans five disciplines and a broad geography from Estonia to Turkey, Moldova to Siberia. You will take two required research courses, two advanced language courses and then choose from electives offered by MAERES and other SFS programs. Personalized advising ensures you will find the courses that best advance your goals. Exposure to diverse perspectives and methodologies will prepare you to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical insights. 

We also offer an accelerated degree for current undergraduate students and joint degrees for graduate students through Georgetown Law and the Department of Government.
