Graduate Certificate in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies

If you are a current master’s candidate at Georgetown University, you may be interested in the Graduate Certificate in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies. This 15-credit certificate offers an interdisciplinary approach to the region.

You’ll choose from a variety of courses in consultation with the director of academic programs.

Eligibility

This certificate is available to students currently enrolled in a master’s degree program at Georgetown University.

Certificate requirements

To earn the certificate, you must fulfill these requirements:

  • Three courses with the REES prefix
  • Two free electives focused on the region*
  • Four semesters of Russian (through RUSS 1512 at Georgetown) or the equivalent or four semesters in another language of the region (language requirement)

*Please note that any course with the REES prefix will automatically be approved as an elective course. The program must approve courses without the prefix in advance. If the regional focus is unclear in the course title, be prepared to share a copy of the syllabus and submit a written justification.

Language requirement

You must also study a language of the region through the intermediate level. This includes four semesters of Russian or the equivalent or four semesters in another regional language. You may also fulfill this requirement through language fluency.

How to apply

We encourage you to declare interest in the certificate early to have enough time to complete all requirements. To apply for the Graduate Certificate in Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies, you must do the following.

  1. Complete the certificate interest form as soon as possible.
