Alvarez Memorial Scholarship

The Alvarez Memorial Scholarship supports students in the School of Foreign Service who lack the financial resources to accept unpaid public internships or research assistantships. This scholarship ensures that students with financial need can gain valuable hands-on experience without the burden of financial constraints.

To apply, students must demonstrate their financial need and describe their intended internship or research assistantship.

This award is available to current SFS students who receive need-based financial aid from Georgetown University.

The scholarship provides financial support for unpaid internships or research assistantships, with the amount determined based on individual needs.

SFS Undergraduate Dean’s Fund

The SFS Undergraduate Dean’s Fund offers funding for academic research, conferences and programming that align with Georgetown University’s mission. This support helps students engage in research and academic projects that contribute to the SFS community.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. Students can apply individually or on behalf of a group. Prior successful applications may influence future funding decisions.

This award is available to undergraduate SFS students on the Hilltop Campus in DC who are working on Georgetown-related research projects.

Funding is available for up to $3,000 per application. Please note: Funding is not available for textbooks, class activities or travel unrelated to research.

BSFS Summer Awards

The BSFS Summer Awards provide funding for students who have secured low-paid or unpaid summer opportunities such as internships, research, service-learning or study abroad programs. This award helps make valuable professional experiences more accessible.

Students must submit their applications to the Undergraduate Dean’s Office, detailing how the experience will contribute to their academic and professional goals.

This award is open to undergraduate SFS students, but applicants cannot be graduating seniors. The award can only be granted once during a student’s academic career.

Award amounts are up to $3,000, depending on the availability of funds.

Mark Adamsson Prize

The Mark Adamsson Prize honors the memory of Mark Adamsson, an SFS student who passed away in 2015. The prize supports a summer-long, international project that could involve research or other initiatives aimed at making a positive impact in the world.

The application process is open to juniors in the SFS class, and details for the Spring 2026 cycle will be released soon.

The prize is typically awarded to students in the SFS Fundamentals of Grand Strategy course (IPOL 4410), but for spring 2025, it will be open to the entire junior class.

The prize provides a $5,000 award to the winner.
