Global Experience

Global Experience is dedicated to the engagement of undergraduate and graduate SFS students in international opportunities. Through Global Experience, 80% of our undergraduate students are able to spend time abroad, whether via international courses, study abroad programs, summer internships, conferences, or personal research trips.

Mission

We aim to position Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service as the leading institution for cultivating well-rounded, global change-makers. Our undergraduate and graduate SFS students are not just aware of international issues, but possess first-hand, immersive experience tackling the world’s challenges.

Centennial Labs

Our flagship Centennial Labs program enables enrollment in competitive courses with embedded, fully-funded travel. C-Labs are SFS classes built around an issue, idea, problem, or challenge facing a real community. They are both cross-curricular and experiential at the core. Along with the professors, students are able to put theory into practice by exploring past and present real-world solutions within the “lab”, often through international visits.

Exchange Programs

For incoming exchange students, transitioning to Georgetown University’s main campus presents a unique opportunity to broaden their academic and personal horizons. Students immerse in a vibrant academic community, enabling them to explore new intellectual interests, cultivate lasting relationships, and engage with a diverse array of perspectives. They benefit from Georgetown University’s rich learning environment while experiencing the dynamic culture and historic charm of Washington, DC. This journey not only enhances students’ academic pursuits but also fosters personal growth and creates enduring memories, contributing to a comprehensive and transformative educational experience.

Student Experiences

“The Africa is People C-Lab in Ghana allowed me to travel to the African continent for the first time and experience a culture and history that is just simply inaccessible inside classroom walls. Engaging with Ghanians in artistic, historical, and queer spaces showed me a unique and multifaceted side of Ghana.”

“My summer experience in Stockholm has profoundly shaped my perspective and future aspirations. This exposure has sparked a strong interest to continue exploring the intersection of technology and finance.”

“Fieldwork in Romania brilliantly complemented the work we did at Georgetown prior. The primary sources became much more meaningful once we were standing on the streets and visiting the sites of atrocities we read about.”
