Language, migration and the Arab world with Marwa Elessawy (MAAS’26) | CCAS 50th Anniversary

Meet Marwa Elessawy (MAAS’26), a Master of Arts in Arab Studies student combining advanced Arabic language training with policy analysis and journalism. Elessawy explains how the program provides her with a distinct set of resources to pursue her interests, including an Arabic partnership program and study abroad opportunities.

As we continue celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Elessawy shares how she has applied critical thinking to her interest in policy, ultimately creating a deeper understanding of international relations and the Arab world.

“Before CCAS, my world was a lot smaller,” Elessawy says. “Engaging critically with the region and learning deeply about it over the span of two years, all while improving my Arabic, has made me think about moving back to the region and working there.”
