The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Regional Development Planning Agency of Jakarta, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific (GSAP) in Jakarta. The partnership aims to strengthen collaboration in development policy research supporting Jakarta’s long-term development agenda and the city’s ambition to become one of the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030.
The agreement was signed by Atika Nur Rahmania, head of Bappeda DKI Jakarta, and Professor Yuhki Tajima, founding rector of Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific.
Through this collaboration, the Jakarta Provincial Government and GSAP will work together to advance data-driven public policy formulation, drawing on academic research and cross-sector partnerships to address increasingly complex urban development challenges.

Strengthening evidence-based policymaking
The partnership focuses on several areas of collaboration, including the implementation of development policy research, the utilization of research data and information and the publication and dissemination of research findings to policymakers and other stakeholders.
Rahmania emphasized that the partnership represents an important step in strengthening evidence-based policymaking in Jakarta:
“This collaboration is expected to reinforce Jakarta’s development policy formulation through stronger use of data and research, enabling the city to respond more effectively and sustainably to increasingly complex urban challenges.”

Under the agreement, the Jakarta Provincial Government will support the research process by providing relevant data, facilitating coordination and permits and assisting with research implementation.
Bridging research and policy
For Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific, the partnership reflects the institution’s commitment to connecting academic expertise with real-world policy challenges.
Tajima highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and academic institutions in generating effective public policy solutions.
“This partnership creates opportunities to develop research-based policy solutions through rigorous scientific approaches and cross-sector collaboration among stakeholders”

GSAP will contribute to the partnership by conducting research initiatives, producing policy reports and recommendations and providing academic expertise in areas related to urban development, governance and public policy.
Both parties also emphasized their commitment to maintaining academic independence throughout the research process to ensure the integrity of research methods, analysis and findings.
A long-term partnership for urban innovation
The agreement establishes a strategic collaboration that will run for an initial five-year period, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement.
Through this partnership, Bappeda DKI Jakarta and Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific aim to strengthen the ecosystem of evidence-based public policy and innovation in urban governance, supporting Jakarta’s long-term development strategy and its role as a leading global city in Southeast Asia.
