How to apply
To apply to the M.A. in Latin American Studies program, you must submit the application and all required materials for admissions review. Prepare for submission by reviewing the application requirements.
Tuition
As a Latin American Studies master’s student, you will pay tuition at the per-credit rate establish by the Georgetown Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. The M.A. in Latin American Studies is a 36-credit degree program.
Tuition fees exclude individual health care or health insurance premiums, books and supplies, student fees, visas and any travel expenses. The Office of Revenue and Receivables provides additional information regarding tuition breakdown and student fees.
Health insurance is mandatory for all full-time students, though you may be eligible to waive the Georgetown University-provided student health insurance fee if you already have health coverage. For more information on waiving the Georgetown University-provided student health insurance fee, please contact the Student Health Insurance Office.

Scholarships and aid
Merit-based aid
You are automatically considered for merit-based aid based on your academic record and intellectual promise when you apply to the program. Decisions about scholarship awards are made at the time of admission.
Tuition scholarships
We offer full- and partial-tuition scholarships to highly qualified applicants. The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Foreign Service and friends of the Center for Latin American Studies provide tuition support. Funding is awarded yearly.
Research assistantships
Our faculty and staff hire students every year who work as hourly-paid research assistants or student employees. If admitted, you will be notified of employment opportunities as the positions become available.
External funding
Students can apply for external funding. There are many opportunities that can help fund most or all of your degree. Georgetown’s Office of Fellowships and Awards has more information.
Student loans
Georgetown’s Office of Student Financial Aid provides information about student loans and other forms of support. Only U.S. citizens may apply for U.S. federal financial aid. International students are not eligible.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, we encourage you to apply for awards offered by your government or governmental and private agencies in the United States or elsewhere.

There are various funding opportunities available to fund your graduate school experience. The Center for Latin American Studies provides funding for summer and conference activities.
