The School of Foreign Service (SFS) Career Center is a resource for you during your time as a graduate student and after you graduate. We’ll help you learn the necessary skills to search for and land a job or internship that fits your professional goals.

We serve students and alumni from the SFS graduate programs, along with graduate students from the Department of Government.

Career coaching
The School of Foreign Service Career Center empowers you to navigate the dynamic, interconnected worlds of international relations, diplomacy, business and beyond. Our career coaches are all International Coach Federation certified and have real-world, relevant experience in international affairs. They are ready to help you discover or enhance the path you want to take and prepare you to lead and succeed on it.

We offer many digital resources that can help you understand your own professional goals, find and identify opportunities to pursue, prepare for the application and interview process and land the job. You can use Handshake – a database full of opportunity – to find open positions and network with students and alumni.

From self-assessment and general career development planning to tailored applications and offer negotiations, we’re committed to helping you build the skills and connections necessary for success in today’s global job market.
Once you enroll, you’ll gain access to a wealth of online resources and expert guidance on resumes for the private and public sectors, cover letters and job search strategies.
Graduate career events
We host events such as industry-specific panel discussions, ask-me-anything sessions with industry experts, skill-building workshops and webinars, degree-specific professional development sessions, networking events, employer sessions and job fairs.

Our support of School of Foreign Service graduate students continues after you complete your program. You can continue using our services and we encourage you to return to campus to get involved to help the next generation of international affairs leaders.
You can use Handshake to find job postings, career coaching and career and industry events. Subscribe to the Career Bulletin for announcements and job information by emailing sfscc@georgetown.edu with your name, program and graduation year. We also have various online resources to help including include sample resumes, tips on interviewing, salary negotiation and how to write an effective cover letter.
