Study Abroad Language Programs

Developing your language proficiency can significantly expand your academic and career options. Participating in a Georgetown University-approved direct matriculation program allows you to immerse yourself in a language while fulfilling the foreign language proficiency requirement for your School of Foreign Service (SFS) undergraduate degree. These programs are located in the host country, enabling you to take courses alongside degree-seeking students.
Language requirement
To meet this requirement, you’ll need to enroll in a full-time course load and pass each course. Upon completion, your language proficiency will be recorded on your transcript after your study abroad transcript is reviewed by your curricular dean.
If your curricular dean, in collaboration with our language departments, determines that additional assessment is necessary, you may be required to take an oral proficiency exam.
