Administered by GSAP, Georgetown’s Asian Studies Program, and the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, the Executive Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs-Asia Pacific covers topics of international relations, economic diplomacy, energy and environment, and skills such as international negotiations and leadership.

The EMDIA program is a 30-credit master’s that spans one academic year, offering a dynamic and globally focused curriculum. With Georgetown’s multi-location learning model, you will have the opportunity to study across three strategically significant cities: Jakarta, Indonesia; Doha, Qatar, and Washington, DC. Each contributes a unique perspective on international affairs.

Through a blend of core courses, site visits, and interdisciplinary learning, you will deepen your expertise in key areas such as international relations, economic diplomacy, environmental policy, and global leadership.

Curriculum

The Executive Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs is organized around three distinct modules, each focusing on different aspects of international affairs and diplomacy. These modules take place across three global locations, each tailored to reflect the specific geopolitical and economic regional concerns.

  • Jakarta, Indonesia (fall semester): Study issues related to Asia-Pacific diplomacy, economic integration, and regional security.
  • Doha, Qatar (one week module): A week-long immersive module focused on Middle Eastern geopolitics and energy diplomacy.
  • Washington, D.C. (spring semester): Examine global issues, international law, economic diplomacy, and the workings of international institutions.

Admissions

The Executive Master in Diplomacy and International Affairs is open to highly qualified practitioners engaged in international affairs, including those working in government ministries in fields such as foreign affairs, finance, defense, environment, trade, and investment. The program also welcomes professionals from the Asia Pacific region, including those from state-owned enterprises, who are seeking to deepen their expertise and advance their careers in global diplomacy and international relations.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for the fall 2025 intake has not yet been set. Please check back in January 2025 for updates. In the meantime, you can review the application requirements and begin preparing your materials.

Application Requirements

To apply for the EMDIA program, please submit your application through the Georgetown Graduate Application Portal. Your application must include the following documents:

  • Resume
  • University transcripts; a bachelor’s degree is required
  • Statement of interest
  • Recommendation letters (two required, up to three): Letter writers should be anyone who can provide an assessment of your academic or professional work. For example, former professors/lecturers or former work supervisors/colleagues.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following:
    1. Graduating from a university in which English was the primary language of instruction
    2. TOEFL iBT score of at least 80, or IELTS score of at least 7.0. (Scores are valid for two years from the test date)

Applicants demonstrating English proficiency through a language test will be asked to submit their unofficial scores on the application under the “self-reported test scores” section. Applicants must have the official scores sent to Georgetown University from the TOEFL or IELTS websites.

  • On the TOEFL site, applicants will have the official TOEFL iBT scores submitted by Educational Testing Service to Georgetown University, reporting Georgetown’s institutional code of 5244.
  • On the IELTS site, applicants will use the official electronic score delivery service. Please be sure to select “Georgetown University – Graduate School of Arts and Sciences” (ID: 157042), located in Washington, District of Columbia, United States of America.

Admissions Review Process

Georgetown University will conduct a holistic admission review process that includes:

  • Academic records
  • Statement of interest submitted by the applicant
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Admissions interview

Funding and Scholarships

The tuition for the EMDIA program is based on a 30-credit curriculum, with a rate of $2,550 per credit hour. EMDIA follows the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences tuition and fees schedule. Indonesian citizens may be eligible for the LPDP scholarship, which covers both tuition and living expenses. LPDP applicants must first submit their applications to the Georgetown EMDIA program before applying to LPDP. Proof of this submission is required.
