Thane Gustafson

Professor Gustafson works on domestic politics and policymaking of Russia and the former Soviet Union, as well as the politics of energy and climate change worldwide. He has published seven books on Russian affairs. Among his recent works are Wheel of Fortune: the Battle for Oil and Power in Russia (Harvard UP 2012); The Bridge: Natural Gas in a Redivided Europe (Harvard UP 2020); and Klimat: Russia in the Age of Climate Change (Harvard UP 2021). His latest book is Perfect Storm: Russia's Failed Opening, The Hurricane of Sanctions and War, and the Uncertain Future (Oxford, March 2025).
