Swastik Kundu

Swastik Kundu is a second-year master’s student in the Security Studies Program, where he concentrates on Terrorism and Sub-State Violence. His academic interests include terrorism and counterterrorism, counterinsurgency strategy, and security issues in the Middle East and South Asia, with a broader interest in the intersection of governance and security. Originally from West Bengal, India, Swas speaks Bengali, Hindi, and some Urdu. 

Previously, Swas worked as a Graduate Assistant in Georgetown’s Office of Student Conduct, supporting case management, sanction compliance, and records administration. He earned his BA in International Studies from American University’s School of International Service, where he focused on peace, global security, and conflict resolution in the Middle East and North Africa. During his time at American University, he served as Director General of the American University Model United Nations Conference, overseeing the development and quality review of committee research guides and 855 participant evaluations for a conference that welcomed more than 1,200 high school delegates from across the United States and abroad. 

Outside of work and school, he enjoys reading about military history, exploring DC, and, more recently, navigating the highs and lows of managing a fantasy football team for the first time.
