Maya Westerlund

M.S. in Foreign Service Student

Maya Westerlund is an MSFS student concentrating in Geoeconomics, Business and Finance. She is a dual American–Norwegian citizen who grew up in England, the United States, and Norway.

Before attending Georgetown, Maya earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from BI Norwegian Business School (BI) in Oslo, specializing in International Business. As part of her degree, she spent a semester in Paris at ESCE, studying French language, culture, and international business. During her time at BI, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in business ethics, finance, and economics.

Maya began her professional experience as a project intern in the Oslo office of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in 2023. She then joined the Oslo Business Forum Leadership Program, where she served as Head of Communications for one of Scandinavia’s most prominent annual business conferences. She continued to build her experience as an intern in the Financial Services Audit practice at Ernst & Young (EY), followed by a role at Oivi AS, a medical technology startup with operations in India, the United States, and Norway. Most recently, Maya interned on the consulting team at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Oslo.

Maya is an Excel Fellow, a selective global leadership fellowship that pairs high-performing students with leading companies and mentors in Tel Aviv, Israel. As the first Excel Fellow from Norway, she began her fellowship with professional immersion and cross-cultural development in Tel Aviv during the summer of 2025.

At MSFS, Maya is pursuing fluency in Hebrew and is interested in geopolitical risk analysis and global financial systems. Outside of academics, she enjoys running in Washington, D.C.
