Global Human Development Student
Maria Cristina Caldas Albornoz is an international development professional with a strong commitment to education as a driver of equity, critical thinking, and democratic resilience. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), where she later served as a teaching assistant in Ancient Philosophy shortly after completing her degree.
In 2020, Maria Cristina co-founded A Mí No Me La Hacen (AMNLH), an award-winning Peruvian NGO that combats misinformation and promotes Media and Information Literacy (MIL). Under her leadership, the organization developed Infodemic: Journalism in Crisis, an internationally recognized educational video game that leverages behavioral science and gamification to strengthen critical media skills. Through AMNLH, she has led large-scale MIL initiatives and built strategic partnerships with institutions such as UNESCO Peru, PUCP, the Goethe-Institut, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), and other key stakeholders to advance the MIL agenda across Latin America.
Her professional experience spans the academic, nonprofit, and public sectors. She has also represented AMNLH and Peru in international forums, including the University of La Plata’s Congress on Wikimedia and Digital Cultures, UNESCO’s International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, and Brazil’s National Meeting of Science Communicators.
This fall, Maria Cristina will join the Master of Global Human Development program at Walsh School of Foreign Service as part of the GHD Class of 2027, supported by the Beeck Latin America Endowed Scholarship, a merit-based award for Latin American students. At Georgetown, she looks forward to deepening her expertise in education policy and further developing her skills in the design and evaluation of educational projects.
