Lora Becker is pursuing a Master of Science in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, concentrating in Global Politics & Security. For three years prior to the MSFS program, Lora worked for Guidehouse, a consulting firm in Washington DC, where she worked mainly on contracts for the US Department of State. At Guidehouse, Lora served in the Defense & Security sector with a focus on foreign assistance, counterterrorism, and organizational effectiveness. In her work with the State Department's Bureau of Counterterrorism, she played a central role in developing and training staff on a Salesforce-based program management system. At Guidehouse, Lora also advanced business process improvements for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, where she mapped bureau-wide workflows to identify gaps in tools and information-sharing systems. Finally, on a contract with the DHS Center for Prevention, Programs, and Partnerships, she developed monitoring and evaluation materials to help the agency demonstrate its impact in preventing targeted violence and domestic terrorism. Lora earned her B.A. in Global Development Studies with Distinction from the University of Virginia, where she conducted original ethnographic research, completed a thesis on conflict financing in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and authored multiple policy papers on humanitarian and development challenges. Lora is originally from Iowa. In her free time, Lora enjoys rides horses and reading mystery novels!
