Kenneth Pollack

Kenneth M. Pollack is an adjunct professor in the Security Studies Program of Georgetown University and a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where he works on Middle Eastern political-military affairs, focusing in particular on Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf countries.
Dr. Pollack began his career as a Persian Gulf Military Analyst at the CIA and later served two tours on the National Security Council staff as Director for Near East and South Asian Affairs and Director for Persian Gulf Affairs. He has also worked as a Senior Research Professor at National Defense University. Dr. Pollack was a Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution for 15 years, where he was also both the Director and Director of Research of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy.
He is the author of 10 books on the political and military affairs of the Middle East, including the best selling The Threatening Storm and The Persian Puzzle. His most recent book is Armies of Sand: The Past, Present, and Future of Arab Military Effectiveness (Oxford, 2019).
