Kathryn Putz
M.S. in Foreign Service Student
Kathryn Putz is a candidate in the Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) program at Georgetown University, pursuing the International Development concentration.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, she graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in Government and Asian Societies, Cultures, and Languages in 2022. Her interest in the Asia-Pacific region stemmed from internships at the Carter Center’s China Focus office, and the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Human Rights, Democracy, and Labor where she focused on protections for Chinese ethnic minorities. While in college, she honed in on commitments to women’s empowerment and international educational equity, co-founding the Women in Law and Politics club and mentoring students interested in global study and internship opportunities through Dartmouth’s Dickey Center for International Understanding.
After graduating, she carried these passions abroad. In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, she served as a teacher and mentor with the Harpswell Foundation, supporting university women from under-resourced regions through English courses, leadership training, and community building. She then spent two years in Taiwan as a U.S. Fulbright Program grantee, teaching English and promoting intercultural exchange at both the elementary and university levels. She studied advanced Mandarin in Beijing, China in 2019 and maintains professional proficiency in the language.
