M.S. in Foreign Service Student

Katherine Hartnett is a Master of Science in Foreign Service candidate concentrating in Global Politics and Security, with a thematic focus on counter-narcotics, anti-money laundering policy, and the financial infrastructures that enable transnational criminal networks. Her academic and professional interests center on the intersection of illicit economies, governance, and U.S. foreign policy, with the goal of advancing research and policymaking that strengthen financial transparency and national security.

Prior to joining MSFS, Ms. Hartnett worked on the Chief of Staff team supporting the Executive Vice President for Data and AI at Capital One. In this role, she coordinated high-visibility internal initiatives, partnered with senior leaders on organizational communications, and contributed to programs that enhanced engagement, inclusion, and team culture across a national organization.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Hartnett spent over five years at Accenture, specializing in large-scale Workday implementations and data transformation. She partnered with technical and business stakeholders to modernize enterprise systems and advance workforce data processes for complex institutions.

Ms. Hartnett began her professional career as a Field Artillery Captain in the United States Army, where she developed foundational strengths in leadership, crisis management, operational planning, and cross-functional coordination.

Beyond her professional work, she served as Vice Co-Chair of the Reading Rangers, a New York Junior League committee dedicated to advancing literacy in Harlem public schools.

She holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Islamic World Studies. Following MSFS, she aims to pursue a policy-oriented career focused on counter-narcotics, financial crime, and evidence-based national security strategy.
