Justin Fanelli

Associate Adjunct Professor - Center for Security Studies

Professor Fanelli is technologist and practitioner contributing to both the public and private sectors. His Defense and Intelligence Community career has spanned six agencies and three military services with a majority at the Dept of Navy where he currently serves as the acting Chief Technology Officer and the Technical Director of Program Executive Office Digital and Enterprise Services (PEO Digital). He has taught graduate courses for a decade including guest lectures at Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Carnegie Mellon and others but Georgetown is his home. Board and Advisory work includes dual use technology, angel and venture capital investing, and emerging technology largely focused on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity across different sectors. He is a Fellow at the Open Forum for Artificial Intelligence, the Rodel Institute and is a member of the Cosmos Club. Recent Awards have included the Civilian Exemplary Achievement, the Department of Navy's Engineer and Scientist of the Year, Secretary of the Navy’s Innovation Award, National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation, Project Management Institute's Project of the Year, and named to the Federal 100, Health100 and Defense50 twice.
