Juan Manuel Escalante

Juan Manuel Escalante is a senior career diplomat with over 25 years of professional experience in bilateral and multilateral relations, specializing in trade negotiations, international economic law, and development cooperation. Having served in senior leadership roles across the Ecuadorian diplomatic service and within international organizations such as the OAS, WTO and the World Bank, he focuses his work on the strategic intersection of economic stability and regional security.
He is an alumnus of the MSFS program (1998), and is passionate about mentoring new professionals and helping students navigate the practical challenges of modern diplomacy. His ongoing research and practice examine the evolving landscape of security, trade, development policy, and institutional cooperation within Latin America and in the Western Hemisphere.
As an MSFS graduate, Juan Manuel brings a deep commitment to the program’s community. He holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and was trained at the Diplomatic Academy of Ecuador (1995). He conducted his initial university studies in Political Science at the University of Vienna.
