James (Xiaolong) Wang

James (Xiaolong) Wang is a Master of Science in Foreign Service candidate at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service, concentrating in Science, Technology, and International Affairs (STIA), and a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University (2026–2027). Born in China and raised in Singapore and Canada, he brings a cross-cultural perspective to U.S.-China technology competition, AI governance, and the strategic challenges posed by emerging technologies. He speaks Mandarin Chinese fluently and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in Philosophy and Political Science.
James serves as a Senior Editor for the G20 Research Group, contributing to global policy monitoring on digital governance and climate commitments. He is a Contributing Writer for the Sino-Southeast Initiative, an Associate Editor at the Georgetown Journal of Asian Affairs, and a Policy Fellow with the Georgetown AI Association. His writing has appeared in The Diplomat, where he analyzes semiconductor export controls, Indo-Pacific security cooperation, and the governance challenges surrounding advanced technologies.
At Georgetown, James is deepening his expertise in AI safety, semiconductor supply chains, and international technology governance. He aims to build a career at the intersection of technology policy and global affairs, developing governance frameworks that support innovation while strengthening global security.
