Jaime Ocon

Admissions & Alumni Fellow

Jaime is a first-year master’s candidate in the Security Studies Program (SSP) and the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy’s 2027 Weintal Scholar. During his time at SSP, he aims to leverage his experiences in the field to promote and contribute to the U.S.-Taiwan defense relationship.

Prior to starting his studies, Jaime was the lead defense reporter for TaiwanPlus, the largest English-language TV news channel in Taiwan. He is one of few Americans allowed to report from a variety of military bases across Taiwan and documented various geopolitical events around the Taiwan Strait.

Jaime moved to Taiwan in 2016 after receiving the Huayu Language Enrichment Scholarship to learn Chinese under Stanford’s ICLP program at National Taiwan University. He received a full scholarship in 2017 to attend National ChengChi University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy, taught in Chinese. In his free time, Jaime likes to explore different coffee shops and museums in DC.
