Ian Lloyd

Ian D. Lloyd, Ph.D. is Director of Power Sector Policy & Strategy at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). Ian has worked on energy and climate change for over a decade across government, non-government and academic positions.  Prior to EDF, Ian was a Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State from 2016-2023 leading on clean energy, innovation, technology and transparency issues for the Office of Global Change, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES), and worked at the U.S. Department of Energy from 2013-2016 supporting global clean energy initiatives.  Prior to DOE, Ian covered a range of climate, energy, and development issues at the World Bank, and as a AAAS/AGU Congressional Science Fellow in the office of Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR).  Ian received a Ph.D. from Princeton University in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in 2011, and held a fellowship in the Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy program at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.  Ian has a B.A. and M.Sci in physics from the University of Cambridge, UK.
