Emily Houtz
M.S. in Foreign Service Student
While in Georgetown’s MSFS program, Emily plans to pursue a concentration in Global Politics and Security and complete a certificate in Refugees, Migration, and Humanitarian Emergencies. She hopes to explore topics such as Russian foreign influence, conflict resolution, refugee studies, and international law.
In 2024, Emily completed an internship with the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. During her internship, she participated in high-level dialogues by assisting ambassadors and military officers from foreign countries with their needs throughout the day and taking notes during meetings.
Emily is an alumna of Brigham Young University, where she double majored in Political Science, with a concentration in International Strategy and Diplomacy, and Spanish Studies. During her time at BYU, Emily worked as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant. This kept her involved in courses focused on academic writing and the distribution of research to governments in Latin America. Additionally, Emily participated in Model United Nations and study abroad programs dedicated to learning about conflict resolution and international organizations.
