M.S. in Foreign Service Student
Elsa Lunar Alonso is a Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) candidate at Georgetown University with a concentration in Science, Technology, and International Affairs (STIA). Her academic work focuses on international political economy, energy policy, and emerging security challenges. She has a particular interest in the intersection between energy, climate, and geopolitics, including the growing role of hydrogen in the energy transition, particularly in the context of EU–GCC relations.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in economics at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in Madrid. During that time, she also spent a semester in Taipei as an exchange student, taking courses at National Taiwan University (NTU) and other institutions.
Before coming to Georgetown, Elsa gained experience in both international organizations and the private sector. She worked with the European Union on economic and trade-related issues across Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar, contributing to research on energy, trade, and regional cooperation. She also spent time in the private sector at a spanish global engineering firm, where she was exposed to large infrastructure and energy projects. In addition, she supported the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and focused on critical infrastructure protection.
At Georgetown, she continues to develop these interests through her coursework and participation in policy and negotiation simulations. She represented Spain in a NATO-focused exercise, focusing on energy security, hybrid threats, and infrastructure resilience.
