David Edelstein

Dean, Georgetown College of Arts & Sciences

David M. Edelstein is Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences as well as a Professor in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, the Department of Government, and the Center for Security Studies at Georgetown University. He previously served as Vice Provost for Education at Georgetown. He is a scholar of great power politics, military intervention, and the causes of war and peace. He is the author of two books: Over the Horizon: Time, Uncertainty, and the Rise of Great Powers (Cornell University Press, 2017) and  Occupational Hazards: Success and Failure in Military Occupations (Cornell University Press, 2008). His work has also been published in International Security, Security Studies, Foreign Affairs, and Survival. He has held fellowships at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and the Wilson Center.
