Anthony Vassalo

Anthony Vassalo is a Senior International/Defense Policy Researcher at the RAND Corporation, where his research areas include international security, U.S. defense and foreign policy, and the intelligence community. Prior to coming to RAND, Mr. Vassalo served as the Associate Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Mission Integration, responsible for the National Intelligence Council (NIC), the President’s Daily Brief Staff (PDB), the National Intelligence Managers, and a number of prioritization, collection, and assessment activities. He was the ODNI Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) from 2013-2014. From 2008 to 2013 Mr. Vassalo served in the Directorate of Strategic Operational Planning (DSOP) at the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), where he was responsible for leading strategic counterterrorism planning activities at the direction of the NSC Staff. Prior to entering the intelligence community, Mr. Vassalo was a career Army officer, serving in numerous command and staff positions. A 1988 graduate of the United States Military Academy, he also holds graduate degrees from Duke and Harvard Universities, and served as an assistant professor in the Department of History at West Point.
