What is the Peace Academy?

The Georgetown Asia Pacific Peace Academy (GAPPA) is an intensive training program for professionals working in conflict resolution, governance, diplomacy, development and peacebuilding in Asia. The program equips you with the analytical tools, policy knowledge and practical skills needed to resolve conflicts and build sustainable peace.

Durable peace has rarely depended on agreements signed by national leaders alone. It has required skilled mediators, effective local institutions and inclusive political and economic strategies that sustain peace over time.

GAPPA addresses a critical gap between a peace negotiation and achieving long-term stability. Many peace agreements fail because the institutions, governance systems and development pathways needed to sustain them are never fully established. Our program, therefore, integrates conflict analysis, negotiation and mediation, governance reform and development planning into a single learning framework.

Drawing on lessons from both the successes and challenges of peacebuilding across Asia, the Peace Academy brings together professionals from diverse conflict and post-conflict contexts to learn from leading scholars and practitioners. Hosted at Georgetown’s Asia Pacific branch location in Jakarta, GAPPA combines rigorous academic training with immersive field experience in post-conflict environments.
