John L. Esposito is University Professor, Professor of Religion & International Affairs and of Islamic Studies and Founding Director of the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. Previously, he was Loyola Professor of Middle East Studies, College of the Holy Cross.

Past President of the American Academy of Religion and Middle East Studies Association of North America, Esposito has served as consultant to the U.S. Department of State and other agencies, European and Asian governments, corporations, universities, and the media worldwide and member of the World Economic Forum’s Council of 100 Leaders and the E. C. European Network of Experts on De-Radicalisation.

Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Islamic Studies Online, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Modern Islamic World, The Oxford History of Islam (a Book-of-the-Month Club selection), The Oxford Dictionary of Islam, The Islamic World: Past and Present, The Oxford Handbook of Political Islam (with Emad Shahin), and Series Editor: Oxford Library of Islamic Studies. His more than 45 books and 100 articles have been translated into 35 languages.
