Valerie Sanchez is a member of the SFS Class of 2018. She spent her summer in the Philippines interning as a student researcher at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED). She obtained this internship through the Beeck Center’s GU Impacts program, which supports about 18 students on international internships during the summer months. In Manila, Valerie worked with 4 other interns, all GU students as well.
ACED currently feeds more than 20,000 malnourished children per day in the Philippines. The program is entirely volunteer run and funded by either private alumni groups of local municipalities. Valerie and the other interns researched the best practices to help ACED’s school feeding program scale forward and become stronger. She was working towards creating a final research proposal and transcribing interviews that were done for their research. Valerie is a professional photographer with her own company, so she also took a lot of photographs for ACED to use as well.
