The Modern Jewess: Image and Text

Thursday, February 1, 2018

Copley Formal Lounge from 9:00 am – 6:30pm

Join the Center for Jewish Civilization and Women’s and Gender Studies as we endeavor to bring together top scholars, researchers, artists, and poets to re-examine, re-imagine, and re-invent the contested category of the Jewess in literature and art.

The aim of this conference is to interrogate (and perhaps reclaim) the term ‘Jewess’ by asking: who and what is meant by the term? Is it celebratory or derogatory? And what gender, racial, and religious stereotypes are at stake in an examination of theJewess and her representation?
