EVENT CANCELLED: The Crisis of Masculinity and the Rise of Political Repression in the US and Europe

January 29 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm EST

A lecture from the BMW Center for German and European Studies’s annual event series, “A Century of Women’s Struggle: From the Franchise to #MeToo”

The BMW Center for German and European Studies invites you to:

The Crisis of Masculinity and the Rise of Political Repression in the US and Europe

a lecture by:

Dr. Myra Marx Ferree
Alice H. Cook Professor of Sociology
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Are the EU’s politics of gender equality part of what European right-wing mobilizations are targeting when they want “less Europe” and more national sovereignty to police their borders, their families, and their gender relations? What if gender functions as a symbolic glue that connects liberal democracy, societal instability and political repression?

Myra Marx Ferree is Professor of sociology and women’s studies at the University of Wisconsin. She has written about feminist organizations and politics in the US, Germany and internationally, as well as about gender inequality in families, and the intersections of gender, race, and class. Her recent work focuses on the development of feminist identities in transnational women’s organizations.
