The School of Foreign Service invites applications for the following positions:

Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Islamic Studies and Muslim-Christian Relations

The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) and the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Islamic Studies and Muslim-Christian Relations. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or interdisciplinary field, be fluent in Arabic and preferably one other language of the Muslim world, and have publications and teaching experience in Islamic studies with a competence in both classical (in particular early Islamic sources, Qur’an and hadith) and modern Islamic thought. Associate Professor of Modern German History (tenured)

The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University seeks to fill a tenure-line position in modern German history with an emphasis on the twentieth century. The search committee welcomes applications from candidates who are tenured, or tenurable, at the rank of Associate Professor. The appointment, which begins August 2010, is to the core faculty of the BMW Center for German and European Studies in SFS, with a joint appointment in the Department of History. The BMW Center fosters interdisciplinary scholarship in history, political science, economics, and cultural studies and is home to a distinguished master’s degree program. The Department of History offers two innovative master’s degrees as well as the Ph.D.

Candidates for the position should hold a Ph.D. in History and should have a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching. Additional research interests in European and comparative history are desirable. Teaching load is two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) levels. Nesuhi Ertegün Professorship in Modern Turkish Studies (tenure-line)

The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University invites applications for the tenure-line Nesuhi Ertegün Professorship in Modern Turkish Studies. Appointment will be made at the Associate or full Professor rank, but the title of Ertegün Professor will be awarded only to a successful candidate at the full Professor level or when such rank is attained. The search committee welcomes applications from candidates who hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline or interdisciplinary field and who have a distinguished record of scholarship on the history, politics or society of the Turkish Republic. Additional research interests in Europe/Eurasia, the greater Middle East or the wider Turkic world are desirable. Teaching load is two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
