This December, a U.S. Congressional delegation visited the SFS campus in Doha as part of a fact-finding mission looking into American universities operating overseas. The five-person delegation included House Subcommittee on Higher Education Chair Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX) and Representatives Grace Napolitano (D-CA), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Ed Pastor (D-AZ), and Henry Brown (R-SC). The group toured campuses across the Middle East—not only in Education City, but also in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, meeting with faculty, students, and administrators to discuss the challenges and benefits of educating students in American universities abroad.

“For the first time in history, American universities are building campuses in foreign countries offering the same education that they do at home,” remarked James Reardon-Anderson, dean of SFS-Q. “With our School of Foreign Service campus in Doha, we at Georgetown University are proud to be at the forefront of this development in global education.”

The School of Foreign Service campus in Doha, Qatar has 145 students representing 28 countries. SFS-Q’s first graduating class will receive diplomas this May.
