Anthony Clark Arend Named New Director of MSFS

Professor Anthony Clark Arend assumed the directorship of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program (MSFS) in fall 2008. MSFS was the first graduate program in the School of Foreign Service, conferring its first degree in 1922, and today it enrolls nearly 200 students in a two-year program. Professor Arend comes to MSFS from his previous position at Georgetown as co-director of the Institute for International Law and Politics, which he founded with professor Christopher Joyner in 2003.

Professor Arend teaches classes in international law, international organizations, and international relations as well as the constitutional law of United States foreign policy. His most recent book, Legal Rules and International Society, was published in 1999 by Oxford University Press. Arend received an MA and PhD in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia after completing his BSFS at the School of Foreign Service.
