SFS Welcomes New Assistant Professor

SFS welcomes new assistant professor Dr. Ibrahim Kalin, who joins the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding this year. Dr. Kalin's field of concentration is post-Avicennan Islamic philosophy with research interests in Ottoman intellectual history, interfaith dialogue, mysticism, and comparative philosophy.

Dr. Kalin's field of concentration is post-Avicennan Islamic philosophy with research interests in Ottoman intellectual history, interfaith dialogue, mysticism, and comparative philosophy.

He is the founding director of the SETA Foundation for Political, Economic, and Social Research in Ankara and was recently named one of the best writers of 2007 by the Turkish Writers' Association for his book Islam ve Bati (Islam and the West). His forthcoming book, Knowledge in Later Islamic Philosophy: Mulla Sadra on the Unification of the Intellect and the Intelligible (Oxford University Press, 2008), looks at Mulla Sadra's attempt to restate knowledge in terms of its existence and modalities. Dr. Kalin received his PhD from the George Washington University and has previously taught in the Department of Religious Studies at the College of the Holy Cross.
